Jul. 16, 2009: I haven't wrote here for a long time, but today I have to. There is a new web site for visualserver.org and compared to the old one this one it's not hand made anymore. I started using concrete5 as it seems to be more easy to maintain the web site, updates and general information in it. I hope that everybody will like it and it will be more useful then the previous one. Some of the functionalities are not yet finished, like Password Reset, but soon it will be done also. So enjoy and if you have some issues just please let me know.

Jan. 01, 2009: Happy New Year everyone! I haven't been writing here for quite some time and lets say that today is about time :). Its a new year and still we are online, which is great. Since we started there was a lot of changes, from OS to hardware, from applications to adding and removing stuff... We added more memory, CPU, UPS for better up-time, better disks, backup systems, better connection and so on. I hope this year will be even more better when it comes to the server and when it comes to give more services to you, the users. In rest I can only wish you the best, to the users who've been on the server from the beginning and for all of you who just checked out the web site, asked for an account, or tried to help in one way or another.
Thanks to all... Lets enjoy 2009 :)

Happy New Year!
2009

Feb. 07, 2008: We are back with the free shells, it didn't took to much time, but now we are testing to see how we can make some money for the maintenance of this service. We added a pop-up window with some ads, also a special page only for those ads, in case you have a pop-up blocker. I would like to ask you to check if possible every ad, click on them if anything interesting there for you, or even sign-up. This way we will be able to make some money to be able to maintain and improve this service. We added also some "non shell accounts" for users that need a good mail address or some good hosting. I hope somebody will really need it, I will see in time. The idea to move to pay shell its still there, we are working on this at this time, maybe we will stop the "free shells", maybe not. Stay tuned :)

Jan. 31, 2008: Server rebooted again, missed some configurations in the kernel, now it should be fine. Added a new domain again, dickypedia.org (funny huh?), but also we stopped the free shell requests for the moment. Yes, we don't give out any kind of shell's at this moment, we will try to figure it out in this time what to do, give out more free shells or switch to only payed shells, or none of this. Anyway check back from time to time, if you are interested in a free shell, but if you are willing to pay for a shell, then we can work it out. Thank you people...

Jan. 25, 2008: Server rebooted today, the kernel was updated to 2.6.24.roadkill. I hope its gonna work just fine, also added a new domain, applemark.net. Check back later on for some more news.

Jan. 16, 2008: Hello, I'm proud to say that we have 2 additional domains to use for this service. This means, that if you what a sub-domain for you web page, you can pick from visualserver.org / they-come-with.us / groundfloordesign.net. There will be more in the future to pick from, but for the moment thats it. This are virtual domains, they use the same ip address. Have a great day!

Jan. 08, 2008: Big news people! The website was updated with a new look, I hope everybody gonna like it, its not too much, but I think it looks much better then before. The 1GB RAM module was added last night, so the server was rebooted, but with this reboot, also the kernel was updated to 2.6.23.12.0.1-razor. I also re-rebuild Apache 1.3.39 with mod_ssl and now login into webmail will be always thru SSL, I would say this way is more secure. Thank you and check back later for more updates and news; Have a nice day!

Jan. 07, 2008: In the news: Apache was updated to 1.3.39, rebuild from source, mysql and pgsql databases moved to a different directory for more order. I added a "donation booth" for raising 100$ for the UPS Power Supply. A new memory module was ordered, we will have 2GB of RAM. We have 130 accounts, I'm gonna clean some accounts (those who never logged in), as soon as I get some free time. That's about it, I will inform you about any new updates when the time comes. Have a nice day.

Jan. 01, 2008:
Welcome to 2008!

Dec. 31, 2007:
Happy New Year!
2008

Dec. 21, 2007: Well people, the server was rebooted yesterday with the newest kernel, but also, I have to give you a small bad news. At the moment, there are some problems with the network, some packages are getting lost, and some people or most of the people trying to connect to the server thru ssh will not be able to do that, I cant fix this, there is some problems with my ISP and until they don't fix this issue, you all have to wait, I'm sorry for this, but I'm just asking you to understand. Thank you, Merry Christmas and have a nice end of year, lets see each other in the new year more happy and successful.

Dec. 05, 2007: WOW! Today at 9:19AM I added the 100 user! Yupi, its a nice day today, I hope its gonna continue like that, also I wanna add that the kernel has been updated to the latest and I added the squashfs patch also the aufs modules to be able to create LiveCD out of my system. This is some-kind of a backup and recovery idea, the next step is a installation script from the livecd, which I hope I'm gonna be able to do as soon as possible. Thank you guys for checking and using this service. Have a good day people.

Dec. 04, 2007: Hi people! So whats up? Until this point there are minor changes, for example I added a new banner on the page, maybe it will help to get some money to improve the services, the backup system works perfectly until this point, the users home and root file system are backup up, users home daily and root file system once a week. The kernel is up to date also the complete system, yesterday I had like 204 updates from CentOS repositories. Until this point we have 98 users in the system, none of them tried until now to do "BAD" things to the system or to others which is cool, but most of the users don't really "like" this service due to the restriction, for which Im sorry, maybe in the future is gonna change. So in a couple of weeks the Christmas is here and maybe something good is gonna happen until then.

Nov. 06, 2007: Hello, I'm writing this as a news so people can understand that some stuff on this server are not allowed or not working. Im talking about SSH Tunneling, Torrents which are not working and are also not allowed, another thing which people don't really understand, the difference between IRC access and screening IRC applications, or installing bot's/bnc's. I've said this in the rules, everyone is allowed to run irssi or ircII as long as they are loged in the system, that means "screen irssi" is not allowed, no process detaching is allowed, I do hope now people will understand and respect this rules. Thank you for your understanding!

Oct. 22, 2007: Yesterday I set up a small web based ssh client for users that cant use putty or similar software on their computer. Its not the best java application, but it should be fine for the moment and should help some people, I hope :), try it and let me know if it does help or not. Thanks...

Oct. 18, 2007: Today, I installed centerIM 4.22.1, for yahoo users, msn, ICQ and much more. Its now possible for users to use this application by typing "centerim". I hope this will be useful for everyone, the release its the latest from the official page, Im hoping for no BUGS at this moment :)

Oct. 16, 2007: I'm happy to say that the service is getting known on the Internet, a lot of people are making request for accounts, which is good, but also I need to ask everyone to help me with this service and by that I mean, please click on the banner from the web page, this will help me make some money and be able to maintain the service. Thank you again all of you who visit the page and help this service to grow.

Sep. 24, 2007: We got a power failure, the system was rebooted, soon I hope we will setup a UPS power supply, until then we gonna work with what we have. Sorry and thanks for the understanding...

Sep. 10, 2007: Hello, we finally setup the paypal make a donation button and account. Also the google AdSense is working. We would like you to click on the adds as much as possible so we can grow and give better services.

Sep. 07, 2007: We wanna give more, but we need help, those who wanna helps us with donations, doesn't matter that is money and/or hardware stuff please write me a mail so we could do this, make the system better, faster. Thank you.

Sep. 06, 2007: We are online, the server is setup and we can start give out free shells, system is updated, domain name pointed properly to our server.

Aug. 30, 2007: We got visualserver.org, the domain name is registered for one year, we will try in the future to get it for more, but for that we need money which now we don't have.
